Big Strike of Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane Worker in Iran

Coordinating Committee To Form Workers' Organization (Tehran Region)

Thu, 08 May 2008 12:14:00

More than 3000 Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane workers went on strike the morning of Tuesday May 6th, to protest the 2 months back wages that are owed to them, as well as other demands.

Workers from all sectors of the company are participating in this widespread strike, and the entire company has been shut down.    The workers demands are;

  1. The immediate payment of two month's unpaid wages.
  2. To put an end to the gathering of information files against worker-activists and the summoning of them to court.
  3. For the sacking of Zibdari, Security Chief of the company for participating in the gathering of the worker-activists' dossiers.

These workers since last year have been on strike more than 14 times.  They have forced the possessors of capital a few times to pay their unpaid wages as well as other demands through their own power and struggles.

At the beginning of the strike, the workers prevented the Deputy General Manager from entering the company's premises which illustrates their anger towards capitalists.

These workers are calling on necessary support from all fellow member of their class every where.
