Ahvaz Highway Blockade by Haft Tapeh workers

Coordinating Committee to Form Workers' Organization (Tehran Region)

Wed, 18 Jun 2008 16:12:00

On the morning of June 17th, 2008, the Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane workers with their families blockaded the main highway from Ahvaz to Andimshek .

[1].  More than a few thousand workers with their families including their wives and children blockaded the highway protesting the lack of fulfillment of their demands.  The struggle of the Haft Tapeh Suger Cane workers had a downfall due to the pressure and wave of repression from the Security Forces of capital.  Nevertheless, on one hand, the workers fully realized that all of the promises of capital were false, and on the other hand, under huge pressures of poverty, being hungry and lacking any livelihood, brought back the intensity of the struggle and made the workers that much more angry.  The current struggle of the workers in Haft Tapeh started one month ago and their demands were;

  1. The immediate and unconditional payment of three month's unpaid wages.
  2. Resign of factory management.
  3. To put an end to the repression and arresting of worker activists.
  4. For the sacking of the Security Chief of the company for participating in the gathering of the worker-activists' dossiers.

This struggle was constantly subjected to suppression by capital.  However, the workers resisted firmly and continued their struggle.  This struggle still goes on.
