The bourgeois government of Iran has again issued jail time for the Worker-Activists for their attempts to celebrate May Day 2004 in the city of Saqez (Iran).
However before anything took place on May 1, 2004, the police and security forced had occupied the event location so the event itself did not even happen. The imprisonment, arrests, torture and execution of worker-activists around the world are an inseparable part of global capital. The capitalist system is based on exploitation, poverty, starvation of most human beings around the world. And, in order for this system to survive it needs to jail, kidnap, and so on in order to control dissent and more importantly protect its economic interests. The verdicts of the bourgeois government of Iran are a reaction in keeping with the nature of capitalism which is to oppress the protest and struggle of worker masses around the world. What is surprising here is not the brutality of such sentences against the worker activists, rather the silence of us against these brutalities. The jail sentence for Mahmood Salehi (four years) and Jalal Hossani (two years) and other worker activists is a verdict of the capitalism system against the working class. The rest of the worker-activists involved in these charges are still waiting for their sentences. The brutality of the capitalism system can only be answered with our power of class unity. The working class around the world must take on the responsibility for uniting and fighting back against such happenings. The isolation of the suppression of dissent everywhere must not remain as such, rather the suppression of dissent must be an issue everywhere for every worker in order for us to really come together and use our power to have a chance against capitalism.
In solidarity with these workers, we call for all workers to raise our voices and our labour power against the bourgeoisie in Iran,
Anti-Wage-Labour collective activists
